Jose Antonio Vargas, author of "My Life as an Undocumented Immigrant, " was in Cleveland for the Town Hall Speaker Series in the Ohio Theatre at Playhouse Square.

Vargas is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist for The Washington Post covering HIV/ AIDS, tech and video game culture, and the 2008 presidential campaign. He has also written for the Philadelphia Daily News, San Francisco Chronicle, Rolling Stone and New York.

Vargas is the founder of Define American, a non-profit organization that seeks to elevate the conversation around immigration, He is himself an undocumented immigrant to the United States.

Before the speech, Vargas attended a reception at the offices of immigration attorney Margaret W. Wong. He answered questions from the audience.

Vargas was asked a question about what he told US Senators and how he worries about the immigration policy conversation. He told of 17 million mixed status families in the US.



Another question was about how he coped with his undocumented status.



Margaret Wong asked him what it was that made him come out and go public.



Another question was about using false documents and social security number. He told how they created false social security cards at Kinko's and used them for employment everywhere from Subway to the Washington Post.
