Cleveland Foundation Common Ground
hosted by CCWA
Syrian Cultrual Garden
July 30, 2017

The Cleveland Foundation coordinated Common Ground on Sunday, July 30, 2017. That day, our community came together during mealtime conversations- breakfast, lunch, dinner and in-between. It was a region-wide initiative to explore our community's power to communicate and connect in order to build a stronger, safer and more dynamic home.

Common Ground is a community conversation to bring Cuyahoga County residents together to meet, share a meal, connect and discuss what we can do together to create a more equitable and resilient Greater Cleveland-our shared home, our common ground.

Conversations took place at locations across Cuyahoga County and in Downtown Cleveland's Public Square. ClevelandPeople.com attended the event in the Syrian Cultural Garden hosted by the Cleveland Council on World Affairs (CCWA).

This particular Common Ground conversation took an internationally-centered approach to the overarching theme of all Common Ground affiliated events: What can we do together to create a more equitable and resilient community?

Over 50 people from diverse backgrounds and walks of life gathered to discuss how together we can build a stronger, more internationally-minded Cleveland, what an internationally-minded Cleveland means to Clevelanders, and how can being more international benefit our community.

Middle Eastern cuisine was shared as particpants gathered at small tables of 8 to exchange ideas and find common ground - from an international perspective.

Conversations included discussions about making Cleveland welcoming to all. Particpants shared ideas from their personal travels and experiences that could be successfully implemented in Cleveland. Younger particpants shared their stories of looking "different" at school. Leadres from international communities and organizations shared ideas to bring groups together. The two hours flew by.
