Taste of St. Casimir St. Casimir Church 8223 Sowinski Ave. Cleveland July 26, 2025
The annual Taste of St. Casimir took place at the historic Church on a steamy weekend on July 26 and 27, 2025.
Longtime parishioner John Niedzialek was not only a volunteer all weekend but he gave tours of the Church. In this video, John says that the original church was built in 1891 to serve the needs of the Polish immigrants who came to the area for the manufacturing jobs. The current St Casimir Church was built in 1916. The beautiful altar is made of wood, ivory and marble.
John told of the very special Pieta statue they have that includes St. John with Jesus and Mary. In 2009 the Church was closed by then Bishop Lennon. On that night, a parishioner, Michael Klymiuk-Wieczerski, had a dream that the Lady of Czestochowa came to him and said do not leave me.

So every Sunday for 2 and one half years, a group gathered outside the locked gates of the church and prayed the Rosary and sang hymns. Other Churches soon joined in. In 2012 the Vatican reversed the decision and it reopened to much thanksgiving and has remained open. John attributes six miracles to the Church.
