Federation of India Community Associations (FICA)
India Cultural Garden
August 17, 2014

FICA is an organization dedicated to serving the needs of the Asian Indian Community in Northeast Ohio. From its humble beginnings as a student association in 1962, it has grown to be the voice of a diaspora of over 20,000 and on the increase. FICA helps Asian Indian families assimilate into the mosaic of greater Cleveland.

FICA hosts an annual event to celebrate India Independence Day.

The day began in front of the Gandhi statue at the India Cultural Garden on MLK Blvd.

The US and Indian national anthems were performed by Michael Sreshta on sax and Priyanka Pai and Rhea Pai on violin.

The crowd sang along with Jana Gana Mana. Cleveland is the only city in the world with a large statue of Gandhi on a street named for Martin Luther King.

Of course everyone wanted to pose in front of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi.
