35th Statehood Day of the Republic of Slovenia Celebration at Severance Music Center June 9, 2026
Consul General of the Republic of Slovenia in Cleveland, Suzana Cesarek, hosted a celebration of the 35th Statehood Day of the Republic of Slovenia on Tuesday June 9, 2026 at Severance Hall in Cleveland. The room was full of Slovenian community members as well as other ethnic community leaders and dignitaries.
Two members of the Cleveland Orchestra performed the US national anthem (not shown in the video) and then the Slovenian national anthem on violin. Then Lucija Lindav Heindel introduced Consul General Cesarek who gave her remarks. Watch.

Special guest Gediminas Varvuolis, Ambassador of Lithuania to the United States of America, gave some remarks and then proclamations were presented to Consul General Cesarek from the City of Cleveland, State of Ohio and US Senator Jon Husted. Cleveland Councilman Mike Polensek then gave his remarks. Watch.

A special treat before the reception was a performance by Fantje na vasi (Boys from the Village) who sang the Slovenian song Triglav (after the highest mountain in Slovenia) and then Slovenec Sem (I am Slovenian and proud to be Slovenian). Watch.
