The Scottish Heritage Association of Northeast Ohio (SHANO) held its annual Robert Burns Dinner and Dance on Saturday, January 24, 2026.
The celebration of the birth of Robert Burns, the poet laureate of Scotland, has been an ongoing tradition around the world for 267 years. These celebrations generally include the poetry, music and songs written by Burns along with some great food, good friends and of course beverages to warm the heart. Here in Cleveland the Scottish Heritage Association of Northeastern Ohio has been hosting the Robert Burns event for many years. The evening is filled with Scottish Traditions and celebrations with food, music, dancing and fun. Many families have made it an annual family event and have passed this tradition down over the generations. Others join us for the first time and enjoy the evening so much they come back year after year.
Wade Mitchell reports, " Despite the threat of snow, 300 attended to toast the Immortal Memory of Robert Burns, and to pay homage to the Haggis. Entertainment was provided by the Lochaber Pipe Band, and the Heather Belles of the Jenny May School of Highland Dance, with ceilidh dancing to the music of Highland Square. It was a night of tartan, kilts, and fun. And the snow held off until well after the dinner. Here are some of Wade's photos.
A special ceremony took place at the event. Bruce W. Greig was inducted into The Northeast Ohio Scottish American Hall of Fame.
