As the sun was lowering in the sky, a group gathered at the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage to celebrate the 1st Night of Hanukkah. Rabbi Shawn Zevit led the start of the Festival of Light and Freedom.

Mark Davidson, Manager of School and Family Programs at the Maltz Museum, welcomed the crowd and introduced Rabbi Zevit.

Rabbi Zevit spoke about the context of Hanukkah - reclaiming the Temple and the story of the candles.

Rabbi Zevit explained the first night of Hanukkah and the candles were lit and prayers sung.

Rabbi Zevit sang a Hanukkah song about "Lighting one candle in the dark" and then the crowd joined in to sing "Rock of Ages."

Rabbi Zevit then led the crowd in O Chanukah to conclude the ceremony.
