Dominican Club of Cleveland 3rd Annual Dominican Festival Estabrook Playground - 4125 Fulton Rd, Cleveland August 16, 2025
August 16 is a national holiday in the Dominican Republic. It is the day when Santiago Rodríguez and his men raised the new Dominican flag on the Capotillo hill which began the war which resulted in the restoration of Dominican sovereignty, the withdrawal of Spanish forces, the separation of the Captaincy General of Santo Domingo from Spain, and the establishment of a second republic in the Dominican Republic.
We spoke with Club President Juan Carlos Santana Medina and Board Member Shoghi Mclean at the Festival. First we asked about the flag of the Dominican Republic and then why Dominicans are so special. Watch the video.
There were athletic competitions, community resources, food and music and dancing! Here is a video of the Island Beats dancers.
