AIPNO 25th Anniversary event


Association of Indian Physicians of Northern Ohio (AIPNO) is a 501(c)non-profit charitable organization founded in 1983 by a few dedicated physicians of Indian origin of Northern Ohio. This organization has a membership of more than 300 multi-specialty physicians geared towards enhancing the quality of health care by fostering excellence and professionalism in the practice of medicine and supporting efforts to improve the availability of health care to under-served populations in the community and in India.

A 'Yatra' is a holy pilgrimage. For years, Dr Jaya Shah and Ramesh Shah and others have led an AIPNO Medical Yatra to tend to the needs of the poorest in different areas of India. Many of the people that the team of doctors see and treat have never had any contact with a medical professional. Here are some of the impressive results.

At this 25th anniversary celebration, Ramesh Shah was honored with the Association of Indian Physicians of Northern Ohio Outstanding Service Award.

The ceremony had several speeches and presentations including a keynote address by Sudarshan Sathe.

Here is a map of some of the areas in India that the AIPNO medical Yatra has reached. They have also reached Mexico, Honduras, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Guyana, Ecuador, Uganda, Kenya and Burundi.

There have been efforts to prevent and cure cervical cancer and establish woman-run businesses to provide sanitary pads for women.

One of the most impressive accomplishments is their effort to help the blind. Besides cataract surgerys, checkups and other eyecare issues they are working with special glasses that use AI to help students "see."
