Black History Month Flag Raising Ceremony Cleveland City Hall February 7, 2026
For 56 years the City of Cleveland has celebrated Black History Month with a Flag Raising Celebration which was started by former Cleveland Mayor Carl B. Stokes.
The event began with remarks by Angela Shute-Woodson, City of Cleveland Community Relations and Community Relations Director.

Despite below freezing wind chill temperatures the attendees marched out to the steps of City hall to celebrate the raising of the flag. Watch the video

Once back in the Rotunda, Imam Paul S. Hasan gave an opening prayer.

Sister Yvette Eley (Ade Olomo) performed a libation ceremony to honor the ancestors.
